***** NOT ANY SORT OF SPRINKLER PART ****
The CDC 6600 was Seymour Cray's first supercomputer. It was the fastest computer in the world from 1964-1969. If you want to see one, just go up the road to the Computer History Museum. For lots more information on the CDC 6600, go to http://en.wikipedia.or/wiki/CDC_6600.
In the early days of Silicon Valley (back when there were orchards and farming along 101), a Minnesota company named Control Data decided to build a new facility in Sunnyvale. The facility was intended as a manufacturing/assembly location for the CDC 6600 supercomputer. They also decided to move the software developers to this new facility from the previous location in Palo Alto. I was one of those developers and worked on the Fortran compiler for the CDC 6600.
The 215 Moffett Park building was classic Minnesota, no windows at ground level (after all the snow would pile up against them). The second floor had tall narrow windows, I'm sure again a transplant of architecture from places that had -40 degree weather at times in the year. This picture shows the facility as it appeared around 1970. It's the big building toward the bottom right with all the cars parked next to it. The road in front is Highway 237 (known then as the Mountain View Alviso Highway). The large empty fields all around were used for onion farming as you could easily ascertain during harvest time. Other than Moffett Field and the Brass Rail across the highway, little else existed in the area. 215 Moffett Park drive was my workplace for a number of years.

The building today bears no resemblance to the old one. It was remodeled to add real windows. I'm not sure what they did to the interior but I'm sure it is much less warehouse-like than it was then. For a version of the aerial shot with labeled objects and a comparison with a modern day aerial shot of the same view, check out a friend's web page: Old vs New
The cache is down the road a short distance. I had a lovely hide near the building but it overlapped with two puzzle caches so I had play inverse Battleship and find a spot the puzzle cache finals were not near. The log is in a bison tube with no room for anything else. Bring your own pen to sign. Please try to restore the area as you found it for the enjoyment of those who come after. The area is much quieter on the weekends so better to come then.
NOTE:No need to tear up the landscaping when searching. Not hanging from landscape branches although you might need to lift up branches depending on growth and if gardeners have been cutting back. In the fall and winter, Mother Nature's leaf bounty can cover over the camo. When replacing the bison tube in it's housing, put the metal ring facing upward.
