Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden on a path beside Chapel Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest in the newly created Southdowns National Park. The area is popular with dog walkers because it is open ground dotted with clumps of gorse and surrounded by trees.

Chapel Common is a lowland heath. Shetland cows graze here and the soil, which has been improved in the past through farming, also provides a home to orchids. Mining bees, digger wasps, woodlarks and minotaur beetles can also be found here. In the summer the open heath can be much warmer than the surrounding land which is why some invertebrates can live here when they would not be able to survive elsewhere.

Due to tree cover - please let us know if the co-ordinates are out. Thanks.
