Geocache Description:

The Discover Angaston trail consists of 12 caches, all placed in historically significant locations near the centre of Angaston. Take your time to read the information on the cache pages and enjoy your walk around one of SA's most picturesque townships.

The fruit industry has been of historical significance to Angaston, and this site was the home of Angas Park's dried fruit operations until it closed in 2013, after the processing facility was relocated and merged with Sunbeam's facility in Victoria. Sadly, all that remains is the brand name on supermarket shelves and the former Angaston Fruit Growers' Co-Op dehydrator building in Dean Street.

Still, this is the site of the old Angaston EFS Fire Station, and this site was also the home of the Holmes carrier business where it was a common site of wagons and teams of horses would line up ready to take goods to Adelaide or the rail at Freeling or Gawler.

If you'd like to get a taste of just how fruity Angaston can be, don't despair! You can still enjoy locally grown fresh and dried fruit at the Saturday Barossa Farmers' Market, or go direct from growers in the area (such as Gully Gardens, Trevallie Orchards). Please sign the log book!
