Geocache Description:

The Humber stone is a micro cache placed in a little known spot in Leicester. This can be classed as a cache and dash as there is parking for 4 cars on a dissused island exit at: N 025° 39.500' W 001° 04.618 and you are two minutes walk from ground zero. If these spaces are full, there are lots of spaces on Sandhills Avenue (if parking here be careful with dogs and children, it is a busy road)

The Humber Stone also known as the Hell Stone, Holy Stone, Ho Stone and Hoston Stone is believed to have given its name to the nearby village of Humberstone. This standing stone (Menhir) of Red granite is derived from a great glacial erratic, deposited here after being swept down from the Mountsorrel area during the Ice Age, 400,000 years ago.
Local folklore suggests that it was dropped by a God and is also the home of Fairies.
Until the mid 18th century it stood almost 10 feet tall in a hollow, but the local farmer had the top broken off to make ploughing the field easier, from that point on he never prospered, eventualy losing all his land and wealth then dying in the local workhouse six years later.

This cache can be accessed by all, but in the winter or wet weather the area can be slippy and muddy making access for pushchairs and wheel chairs difficult.

Dogs are welcome, so keep your eye out for the dog walking muggles
