Ancient Places Series - Root Cavity Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NannaTrains: Unfortunately Ancient seeker (my Dad) recently passed away and because I live a long way away I am not able to maintain these caches as they should be. If I have a change in circumstances that allows me to unarchive the cache, then I will certainly do so. Please enjoy the other caches that are still out there - Dad would be pleased.

Geocache Description:

Small 2x6 inch long plastic container in bag

This cache is one of a series. There are five at the moment. We hope to add more in the future. All are going to be placed in Ancient or Historic locations (hence the name) around Herefordshire. There are many historical sites around the county which we have found interesting and would like to share some of these with fellow Geocachers

Aconbury Wood surrounds the Iron Age hill fort, named Aconbury Hill Fort or Caer Rhian, but many locals refer to the site as The Roman Fort. It is believed that the fort was occupied from the second century BC for about 400 hundred years and pottery has been found on the site to suggest this. There are many paths leading up to what remains of the enclosure that was the main fort and there is a path leading West to North following the old ditch . Partly hidden by trees on the summit is a triangulation point and from the North bank of the enclosure there are splendid views of the Herefordshire plain including the city itself .

Suggested parking for this cache is at Little Birch Village hall at
. N51 59 288 W002 43 265.

As always if following the road beware with children it is usually fairly quiet but is sometimes used as a short cut. You can reach the location from the woods after visiting Sleepy Hollow cache.

Congratulations to Organised Chaos for First to Find
