Geocache Description:

This cache highlights the formation of the Dome Rock mountains using the example of these three inselbergs.

An inselberg is a solitary mountain that stands near another mountain range. These mountains may or may not have anything to do with the formation of the other mountains near them, but in this case it was through these mountains that the Dome Rock Mountains were formed.

The Dome mountains were formed when a series of volcanoes along with fault action, pushed up a range of mountains in what whould become western arizona. These mountains have large deposits of both metamorphic and igneous rocks. At this location we can see several of these volcanoes. As far as I know, they have no official name, but the one nearest the road has been nicknamed "Sugarloaf Peak" after the volcano in northern Arizona.

The metamorphic rocks in the area include gneiss and schist, and for igneous rock the is mainly basalt. The metamorphic rocks were pushed up by fault actions over time and tend to have a slightly lighter hue than the igneous rocks, which came from the volcanoes.

To get credit for this cache email the answers to the following questions:

1. The GC code and name of this cache.
2. The number of people in your group.
3. What type of volcanoes are these? (Hint: There may be more than one)
4. Note the many smaller mounts around the bases of the larger volcanoes, how do you think they got there?
