This cache takes you to some historic lime kilns in a little known area of Geelong.
The kilns were constructed between 1865 and 75 replacing earlier kilns located to the west,
Locally quarried limestone was burned to produce lime used mainly for mortar in the buildings of the town. Alternate layers of stone and wood were loaded from the top of the kiln and set to burn. The lime produced was shoveled out at the bottom and bagged.
NOTE This site is protected under the Heritage Act 1995 so please do not disturb structures or rocks around the site.
The cache is NOT within the kilns.
Park at S38 08.894 E 144 23.221 and access via gap in corner of fence. There is a rough track to the north. Alternate access from the Limeburners Point boat ramp carpark to the west at low tide.
Long grass and some scrambling may be encountered.
I am a camouflaged micro.
Please ensure my camo is in place after your find.
Note Co-Ords were changed as of 17 May 2011
