in our disclaimer.
The cache is a small click top box with a logbook, pencil and space for small swaps and/or trackable items. It is just off the motorway junction with nearby parking available within walking distance. Please replace carefully and keep the pencil with the logbook. (Area can be wet underfoot esp. after heavy rain!)
Motorway Mayhem caches are intended to provide fairly easy drive-by caches together with useful information for travellers who are in need of a break.
Looking south straight ahead are the Tebay Fells with the Knott being the highest point at 319 meters and the M6 goes into the Lune Valley through the Lune Gorge.
Shap Summit is 1036 feet above sea level and to prevent travellers in very bad weather getting stuck the Highways Agency keeps snow ploughs and gritters at a depot here.
The quarry to the left (east) between Oddendale / Hardendale belongs to Hansons and supplies limestone for the Corus Shapfell Kilns.
Clearly visible on the slop up towards Hardendale Nap are glacial erratics, granite boulders left by the movement of glacial ice sheets about 10,000 years ago.
+++ Congratulations to Mr Truffles as FTF +++
