Rillenkarren EarthCache

This cache leads you to one kind of karst formation which is often to be found in the limestone alps. It is called "Rillenkarren".

Dieser Earthcache führt Euch zu einem schönen Beispiel einer Verkarstungsform wie sie in den Kalkalpen öfters zu finden ist: den sogenannten Rillenkarren.

Karren bilden sich an der Oberfläche von Kalksteinen. Es können Rinnen im Millimeter- bis Zentimeter-, Rillen im Zentimeter- bis Dezimeter- oder sogar Formen der Megakarren im Meterbereich gebildet werden. Karren sind in sehr unterschiedlichen Formen anzutreffen und Klassifikationen unterteilen diese nicht nur nach Form und Inklination des Felsens, sondern vor allem dem Bildungsort.^[1]

Hier handelt es sich vornehmlich um sogenannte Rillenkarren. Sie sind auf Gesteinsflächen mit einer Neigung von 40 bis 80 Grad zu finden. Verursacht werden sie durch abfliessendes (Schmelz-) Wasser. Man sieht sie öfter in der Gegend - auch an kleineren Steinen. Haltet einfach die Augen offen.

Im Winter ist das Gebilde vom Sessellift "Ski-Schaukel Falken", von der Piste 7, oder von Skiwanderroute Nr. 8 (Falken) aus zu sehen. Abhängig von der Schneehöhe ist im Winter jedoch unter Umständen nicht viel zu sehen.

Im Sommer ist die Formation über Wanderweg 13 zu erreichen.

This Earthcache leads you to a good example of one kind of karst formation which is often to be found in the limestone alps. This specific form is called "Rillenkarren".

In the region of Vorarlberg you can find three overlapping rock areas: flysch, Nagelfluh and lime.

"Karren" develop on the surface of limestones. There are clints ranging from some mm to cm, glyphs from some cm to dm or even grikes of some meters width.

They are found in different forms and are not only classified by form and inclination of the rock but also by point of origin.

Here you can see mainly so-called "Rillenkarren". They can be found on rock surfaces with an inclination from 40 to 80 degrees, and they are formed by effluent rain water and snowmelt.

You can find them quite often in this area - just keep your eyes open.

In winter you can spot the rock from the chairlift "Ski-Schaukel Falken", from the piste No. 7 and the skitrail No. 8 (Falken). Depending on the snow level it's more or less visible.

In summer you can get to the rock via the hiking trail No. 13.
