Geocache Description:


A monument of "Toubei & A Wolf", one of old chattering stories, in Nakakitadai Park in Higashi-Yamato city.

"Toubei & A Wolf", chattering story.
A long time ago, the boss of a skilled woodcutter lived in the valley of Ishikawa where it had been it in the Tama lake now in old days.
One morning Toubei climbed the Kasamatsu slope which in Sayama Hill to go to the workshop, he saw the suffering wolf opening mouth wide.
Toubei got closer to the wolf with fear and he saw the rib of the meat stacked in the throat of the wolf.
When Toubei said "I'll get the born out, and don't eat me.", the wolf nodded.
When he put a hand in the mouth of the wolf and took the bone out, the wolf bowed and returned in a forest.

After that the wolf has come for greetings Toubei every time he was passing by in morning and evening.

Because a wolf was called Magami which a servant of the Mitake Shinto shrine, so Toubei made a shrine for the wolf which protected him. And Toubei prayed for the wolf the morning & evening.

東大和市の中北台公園内には、「藤兵衛さんと狼」のモニュメントがあります。

＜よもやま話「藤兵衛さんと狼」＞
昔、藤兵衛さんという腕の良い木こりの親方が、今は多摩湖になってる石川の谷に住んでいました。
ある朝、いつもの様に仕事場へ行こうと笠松坂（狭山丘陵の中にあった）を登って行くと、大きな口を開いて苦しんでいる狼が見えました。
恐々、寄って見ると、狼の喉には、食べた肉の骨が刺さっている様でした。
「取ってあげるから喰いつくんじゃないよ」と言うと、狼は頷きました。
藤兵衛さんが狼の口に手を入れて骨を取ってやると、狼は頭を一つ下げ森の中へ帰って行ったそうです。
それからは、朝晩、藤兵衛さんが通るとその狼が挨拶に来る様になったとの事。
藤兵衛さんは、狼が御嶽神社のお使いで大口真神（おおぐちまがみ）と言われていたので、自分を守ってくれた狼の為にお宮を造り、朝晩拝んだそうです。
