Geocache Description:

Area is an old gravel pit that was transformed into a municipal park with two miles of trails. Desert flora and fauna. Easy acess to Interstate 10.

The City of Deming transformed an old gravel pit into a municipal park. It now has an amphitheater, outdoor meeting pavilion, and two miles of nature trails. It is now known by locals as the “Pit” Park. There are interpretive signs of local flora and fauna. At certain times of the year you can see burrowing owls setting up house in the mud cliffs. The pit was originally formed when area highways were constructed and World War II runways were built in the 1940’s for training bombardiers. The park can be seen from Interstate 10 and is an easy on and off at exit 85. You will be glad you stopped to locate this cache. Elevation is 4,305 feet and the trails are improved. Entrance and exit into the pit are asphalt. The terrain is contoured from excavation so it rolls a bit.
