Scenic 40, where Old met New
During the Construction of Interstate 70 and the
bypass of Hancock Maryland a four lane section of Route 48 (prior
to I-68 completion) was built between the Interchange and the
bottom of Sideling Mountain.
After the completion of the Sideling Mountain Cut
and the building of the roadway for I-68 the Road was shifted away
from Route 40 over to the 4 lane Interstate.
At the cache location you can see where the
original connection was made to the Interchange.
The original Route 40 going East follows Md 144 into Hancock MD
past the Historic Toll House just outside of town.
Heading West on Route 40 takes you over Sideling
Mountain and thru the hair pin turn at the top and down over the
west side.
The cache you seek is a Micro, No Room for a
writing utensil so BYOP
Plenty of parking at this cache location, even
for the Big Rig and RV cachers. A Gravel lot large enough for a
Semi.
Stealth will depend on day and time of your hunt,
But be aware of local muggles nearby and travelling muggles along
Route 40 passing by you.
Congratulations to DeltasigOx for the FTF
