This is a simple film canister cache'n'dash to commemorate my 350th find and start off a new series.
Can't seem to find much information about this gate but it certainly has a presence. I thought it to be a former entrance to the Riseholme park, Riseholme Hall, near Lincoln.
Once the Bishop of Lincoln's palace and now the University of Lincoln's country campus. Riseholme Park is home to the university's agriculture, animal-related and biological science courses. Over 1000 acres of land are farmed at this campus and in the nearby village of Nettleham.
Thanks to 'JUSTALAN' for the following update on the gates.
They were the entrance gates to Nettleham Hall, which burnt down in about 1934 and used to be owned by the Hood family. There are still a few remains of the old hall, but it is mostly overgrown. The gates originally came from the old St Peter At Arches Church in Lincoln, and are Grade 1 listed. There is not a lot of information on the hall available, but my mother, and most of the village residents over 80 remember it; although they are unsure as to why it was so far out of vthe village, when most of the servants came from Nettleham.
