While out caching, not long ago, as I drove east I happened to
notice a coyote running along the road south of me. He was in fine
shape for winter. I wondered if he wintered at some cafe where the
burgers were out-sized like the ones at Francisco’s many
years ago. At any rate Mr. Coyote looked like he had let his belt
out a notch or two. Odd, for a coyote to be anything but a skinny
rack of bones by midwinter, maybe the economy isn’t so bad
after all.
On my return trip I hoped to get another look at my new friend,
but I wasn’t as lucky. It was getting late in the day and the
winter sun was fading westward quickly. My eyes were getting heavy
and I was glad it wasn’t too far home. Like my buddy Coyote
all I wanted was a cozy den to curl up in.
While you are out in the neighborhood keep an eye out for one
good looking coyote. Say hi if you see him.
Remember to take your scribe, one never knows when you might
need it.
