Geocache Description:

This is one of South Australia's best kept secretes, and it's free.

Bring the family for a great day out. I do recomend that you arrive at 9am when the sanctuary opens as this is when the animals are most active.

Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary was first established in 1969 when dairy land was revegetated with native trees and shrubs to attract native animals and birds. In 1982 the 35 acres was enclosed with feral-proof fencing. Once the fence was completed, the bird population flourished and the release of many native animals began, including the elusive platypus.

On 1st January 1985, Warrawong opened to the general public for the first time. Today, Warrawong is home to 100 species of birds and many native mammals, most of which are nocturnal and highly endangered.

More information can be found here.

The cache is a 200ml clip lock container on the outside of the property so you don't need to enter the property if you are just passing by.
