Geocache Description:

Released just in time for Halloween 2012, the “Haunted Marlborough Series (HMS)” celebrates the rumored historical hauntings of this fine Metro-West city with many colonial roots.

Welcome to the Fort Meadow Reservoir!!! Located on the Marlborough/Hudson line, this area is known for being the spot where former Marlborough city Mayor, Lewis F. Ingalls, drew his last breath...

Lewis F. Ingalls served as Mayor from 1938-1940 and won re-election in 1940. But, he never served that second term. By the time he was re-elected, a scandal had developed where it was revealed that some city employees had paid to get appointed to public jobs. Apparently, the embarrassment was too much for the Mayor… In the early winter of 1940, he wrote a note to his wife that read “Tonight I will sleep under the Fort Meadow Bridge”. He folded his coat neatly on the banks of the water, placed his hat on top, cut a hole in the frozen reservoir - and jumped in… They say his spirit still doesn’t rest… A dark, hunched and shadowy figure has been seen walking across the frozen reservoir, along the shoreline and across the bridge. Some of the nearby neighbors say they have even seen the frightened face of a gaping, frozen man looking up through the ice at the end of their dock!
