Geocache Description:

Smiles for all... well sort of. Lake Lure has been the setting for many commercials, movies, and amazing adventures. This series of caches is to show some cool spots in Lake Lure (pull-offs can be cool too ;) )...

Now for the challenge!

The challenge is simply getting to the cache.

There are two options to approach this cache. One by boat and the other overland.

FIRST, by boat.

You may rent a boat, boating permit included.

If you bring your own boat, you MUST have a permit. For a non-motorized boat a day pass is $25.00, a weekly pass is $50.00 and a yearly pass is $100.00. The fine is stiff if you get caught without a permit.

Or, since I've adopted the Smiles for All series, you can borrow my canoe which does have a permit.

SECOND, overland.

This option will require some significant bushwhacking and crawling through very thick foliage to get to the cache. Park near the water tank at the end of Carson's Way, see the waypoint. Please do not block access to the water tank or the forest road. Proceed up the forest road until the cache is at its closest before proceeding into the forest.

Important note:
Lake Lure does lower the water level every few years so it may be even harder to access this one in the winter.

***** NOTE ***** The lake has been lowered about 10 feet until March 1, 2017 to allow for the repair of a small generator at the dam. When the lake is returned to normal pool, this note will be changed. *****
