Geocache Description:

This is number 6 in my "Welcome to... " series. This time taking you to the village of Elmstead Market, just outside of Colchester, Essex

Elmstead Market

Elmstead Market is approximately 4 miles East of Colchester, in the Tendring District.

The village has an active WI group and regularly enters the Anglia in Bloom competition, as a result the village always looks neat, tidy and well kept.

The village green in the centre of the village was used originally as a market and fair which helped contribute to the village's name. The fair and market was held as early as 1253 during the reign of Henry III. Eventually, the market died out, but a fair was held there every year until 1914

Cut down the middle by the A133; the main route from Colchester to Clacton, the village has many 17th Century buildings, including the old workhouse at Momples Mill Hunting Lodge and 3 churches.

Just down the road is the now famous Beth Chatto gardens. Beth and her late husband created this haven of lakes and gardens out of a virtual wasteland and just recently a few of the employees from the nursery were commissioned by the Prince of Wales to create a garden for him at Sandringham.

You are looking for a nano container, near to the traditional Elmstead Market village sign
