Geocache Description:

Small lock & lock box with suitable for small swaps & trackables.

I have always known this area as 'The Bankton Glen' however at the west end of the glen there is a stone plinth engraved with Ian White's Wood. Further investigation revealed the following:

Ian White was the Forestry Supervisor for the LDC Landscape and Forestry Section and was based at the LDC Rosebank Nursery and the landscape operations headquarters. He died tragically in his forties when on site at 'The Hainings' property in Woodlands Park, Deans when surveying trees. A branch in the tree canopy fell and hit him on the head and killed him. His favourite woodland, between Bankton Court and the Murieston Water, was named Ian White's Wood after him, as he was sorely missed by the Landscape and Forestry Section, and a cairn was erected in memory of him at the entrance to the east section of what used to be called Murieston Greenway. All the areas around the River Almond, the Nell Burn, the Lochshot Burn,Howden Park, the Folly Burn,Peel Park, the Killandean Burn, Murieston Water, Eliburn Reservoir and the Dechmont Law woodlands formed the green corridors of the Livingston Greenways network. The plan was to have a rural setting around the new town of Livingston.

It is a lovely walk by the river and can be accessed from the east at the A71 or west at Bankton.
