Geocache Description:

This cache is placed at the site of the Wrekenton Lunatic Asylum. The Asylum was opened in 1825 and closed in 1855. The Asylum was opened by Jacob Gowland and controlled by Mrs Gowland. There was a farm attached where "those patients who are sufficiently well to go at large can receive healthy exercise and recreation"

In 1849 the crowding together of 37 patients in one room led to 20 deaths from cholera.

Although the nearby pub is closed down, the cache is located in a area where there is quite a lot of Muggles about so care will be needed to extract without being seen. You will need to bring your own pen/pencil
