Picture taken at the final
stage
Awesome! A Huge FTF
congrats to GeoGirl!
I can just picture you two out there, cold-colder-warm-warmer
:-)
And a FTF on such a hard geocache so early in your geocaching
career,
looks like others, including us, have some serious
competition!
This cache is sure to be a journey. It will take you down the west
side of the plateau, up over the top, then back up the east
side.
Mountain bikers can break it up just a bit by parking at the
trailhead N40 17.562 W122 09.466.
I guess Mountain Bikers could continue down to stage 2, dart up on
foot to 3, pick up the two lower Leap Frogs,
then come back down to the bike and ride the road up around,
hmmm?
Personally I would go with plan A, I am not that advanced of a
rider.
This is your journey, it is up to you :-).
Either way I normally park at N40 16.964 W122 10.573 and take off
on bike from there. This is what I did and from the final stage
made a straight line to here finding a nice trail up a bit from the
cache. This will give you a chance to pick up another cache on the
return, our GTMY denihike 1-30-2011 # GC2ND38.
This multi is meant to be a 5x5, hopefully it holds up to that. It
is only 6mi. RT so the terrain will be easy for some. For me, it is
a fair rating as I cannot use my mountain bike to break the trek
up. Just cannot seem to find the proper footwear.
Very BEAUTIFUL out here right now!
Right now you will be sloshing through some mud, summer, well you
will be very hot out there.
You are only looking at a min. of 6miles if you take my route. But
out here, 1 mile can feel like 2+ and you will be going across a
lot of rocks with no trail, rock hopping in some areas.
There also is a pretty good climb up from stage 3.
This multi will take you up through our Leap Frog series so there
will be opportunity to grab many caches on top of getting a 5x5 for
your grid. There are other ways to tackle it, I will leave that up
to you. I had been wanting to make this trek for quite some time,
go down the west side, cut up and over the plateau then back up the
east side. The only problem I had was I kept stopping for photo
ops, which are endless out here, and just stopping to soak it in.
Absolutely beautiful out here right now, albeit muddy :-)
Enough jabbering, the pioneer/guinea pig will come $10.00 richer
and a big thank you from me for testing my work out ;-)
The first stage is evil, get past that and it should be smooth
sailing.
I also have the cache/stage descriptions below so you can print
them out for a back up.
Enjoy.
Rooks
As always out here, please
stay very aware of snakes!
Summer time is brutal out here also, please be sure to bring plenty
of water and then some more.
Stage 1 – In the beginning
Evil Micro, large nano/small micro ;-)
Get past this stage and the rest should be smooth sailing.
Ole Buddy Abe is there to greet the FTF and encourage them onto the
his twin brother who is waiting at the final stage.
This cache contains the coords for stage 2. No pencil, log
only.
Stage 2 Trail Up – Simple micro hanger with log only, no
pencil.
This cache contains the instructions for the next stage, stage
3.
Find this cache, log in, then project this waypoint .076 degrees X
1335ft, .25 miles
will probably also get you close enough. Large Boulder, cant miss
it.
Stage 3 – Upon A Rock Simple Micro, Log only, no pencil
This cache contains the coords to get you to Stage 4.
While down here it will give you a great opportunity to pick up the
two lower Leap Frog caches, 10 & 11.
Also, from this cache you can continue up to Leap Frog 09 # GC2MQ0N
N 40° 18.308 W 122° 08.264.
Once at Leap Frog 09 there is a good poison oak free trail to the
top of the plateau,
approx at N40 18.281 W122 08.155
Once on top there are many caches to be found!
Stage 4 – East Rim Rocks
DECON with some cool swag and a great view.
From here you can drop down to a really nice trail leading the the
final stage.
Might have to dance a little around a few sprigs of poison oak to
get down.but it is avoidable.
To make it the final stage 5 use the coords of this cache and
subtract .382 from the latitude
40° xx.xxx - .382
Add .511 to the Longitude
122° xx.xxx + .511
Stage 5, the Final Stage. Ammo Can, cant miss it. Abes twin brother
is here to greet the FTF
Please do take you time and enjoy this spot and the cache. Very
nice place, at least I sure enjoyed it here! Nice easy trek back
from here. Congrats!!!!!
