The CDC Cyber 170 Series replaced the CDC 6600 and CDC 7600 as the
workhorses of scientific supercomputing. They represented the move
to semiconductor memory and integrated circuits replacing the
previous core memory and electronic components. More details on the
CDC Cyber 170 series can be found at CDC Cyber Series
The CDC software development facility here at 1306 Orleans Drive
produced software for these and other models. These were still the
days when large scale operating systems and compilers were still
coded entirely in assembler.
The cache is a camouflaged bison tube so bring your own pen. As
always, treat the area with care and leave the cache in good shape
for the enjoyment of others. I have seen the odd roving security
patrol car drive through the area on the weekend but they didn't
seem too interested in my presence. The area is likely to be busy
during the work week.
Congratulations to oaknest for FTF
