Geocache Description:

This cache is located on a tiny island in Ráckeve.

On the map it runs by the name 'Senki szigete' (No man's island). Its area is 6622 square meters, its length is 330 and its greatest width is only 40 meters. Despite the dense undergrowth we have a clear view of the Danube on both sides. It can be approached either from the Ráckeve beach or several other places from the shoreline by swimming or by a watercraft, the distance can be swum in 3-4 minutes. It is quite difficult to find a good mooring spot on the shore, for in most places the vegetation reaches all the way to the water's edge. However the island is totally unsettled, save for a ruined latrine no other building can be found on it. During the summer season vegetation is hell of dense.

The rocks on the shore are quite wobbly, it is not easy to climb or get out through them. Everyone be careful!

On the island we were welcomed by a natural forest with small clearings. Despite the small area, the typical species of bush willow, willow-poplar, and oak-ash-elm grove forest can be found here. Willow trees grow mainly on the island's peak, poplars on the coast, and elms on the highest points of the narrow island. The shrub layer was represented by hawthorn bushes, the fruits of which were already turning red. The slow flow of water and moist soil also favor reed beds. These not only line the coast, but also penetrate into the inner parts of the island. Since the island rises but 1-1.5 meters above water level, this is not surprising.

The island is mainly inhabited by amphibians and reptiles, including the common frog, grass snake and sand lizard, but since it is not threatened by floods at all, it is possible that smaller mammals have also settled there. To do this, they only have to cross the narrow branch of the Danube which separates the island from Kiskunság.
