A large black box hidden on the old Kirby Overblow to Follifoot
road
20 or so years ago this cache would have been in the middle ( or side of ) a quiet country lane mainly used by farmers, tourists, folks who were lost and locals who knew it a s way to avoid going into Harrogate on their way East - West on the south side of town.
This all changed in the early 90s with the opening of the adjacent A658 Harrogate Southern Bypass. The new road was built roughly along the lines of several old country lanes for a lot of its route, in places totally burying them under new tarmac but in others leaving them to be reclaimed by nature although they are often very close to the new road.
This cache is in such a spot, at the few times the new road is deserted you could be forgiven for wondering wjy it was ever built , but then the moment is over and normal traffic resumes.
Due to tree cover at the cache site my GPS would only give an accuracy of approx 15 feet but I did work the co-ords out over several visits and am happy they are close enough for you to locate the cache using them as they consistantly took me to with in 10 feet of the cache
The difficulty rating reflects the tree coverage and GPS accuracy issues and I have attached a spoiler
picture indicating the type of thing you are looking for at ground zero. The terrain for the most part is only a 1.5 but the last few yards are significantly higher, hence the terrain rating of 2.5.
Although the cache itself is only about 25 yards from the A658 I would strongly suggest you park at the waypoint listed for parking, this is about 100 yards from cache but on a much more quiet side lane with space to pull in and park off road.
