Old Post Road Monument
Cache is located near a marker dedicated to the Old Post Road.
Cache container is a 30 caliber ammo can painted green with
"Official Geocache" markings. Please be respectful to the area and
leave the cache better than you found it.
The best places are those than you discover while not looking
for them. We were in the area, looking for a place to hide a puzzle
cache, when we noticed a stone marker off to the side of the road.
We pulled over, and discovered an old, abused marker. The marker
reads,
"SITE OF OLD POST ROAD ERECTED IN MEMORY OF THE PIONEER TRAIL
BLAZERS OF THIS AREA INCLUDING MISSIONARIES, SETTLERS, SOLDIERS,
AND PONY EXPRESS RIDERS."
The marker, obviously long forgotten by the general public, sits
in plain view from the intersection. This cache is in honor of
those very same people, who have helped make Manhattan what it is
today. Please be respectful of the area. Parking is available on
the east side, by the tower. As always, have a great
experience.
