Fire Station 96 is one of five stations run by North County Regional Fire Authority (NCRFA). Covering just over 100 square miles NCRFA is one of the largest fire districts in Snohomish County. Its borders are the waterfront at Port Susan and Warm Beach going north and jogging around the city of Stanwood then to the Skagit county line, following the county line east crossing I5 and SR9 to the ends of Grandview and the Pilchuck Tree Farm. It then follows the Stilly river back south west through Silvana where it cuts south again to Port Susan.
Firehouse 96 is located in the north end of the district just off Interstate 5 which allows for a quick response to the all too frequent incidents there. Fire station 96 was at one time half of Snohomish County Fire District 14. Then districts 14 and 18 merged to form NCRFA. Current staffing levels at this station are three, two firefighters and the on-duty Battalion Chief.
Apparatus housed here include
• Engine 96 – A 1995 Darley rescue style pumper mounted on a Spartan Chassis. Features include a 1500 GPM fire pump, 500 gallon water tank, hydraulic rescue tools (jaws of life) and seating for five.
• Aid 96 – A Brawn ambulance body mounted on a Ford E-series chassis. A-96 is at times staffed with a paramedic changing the response designator to Medic 96.
• Tender 96 – A 3000 gallon water tender mounted on a Kenworth Chassis responds often in this area, fire hydrants are in short supply and water often needs to be shuttled in from other locations.
• Battalion 96 – A 2010 Ford Expedition that carries important incident command information. The Battalion Chief responds to major incidents in the fire authority and manages the scene upon arrival.
The cache is located on property belonging to the fire authority. I have been granted permission to place this cache by the fire chief but not all personnel are aware of it. Please use some stealth and be considerate.
Happy Hunting!
