Situering

In de domeinbossen Meerdaalwoud en Heverleebos bevinden zich verschillende bronnen. Twee ervan zijn voor wandelaars toegankelijk. Dit zijn de Hertebron in Meerdaalwoud en het Minnebron aan de kapel van Steenbergen in het Heverleebos.

Vraag voor het loggen van de cache:


Vraag 1: Naam van de laagste geologische laag? (op het infoboard)

Hérou Qu'est ce qu'un karst ?

Le karst est toujours défini, à tort, uniquement comme un type particulier de morphologie. Or le paysage du karst résulte des écoulements souterrains particuliers qui se mettent en place progressivement dans les roches carbonatées (calcaires et dolomies) et dans les roches salines (gypse et parfois sel gemme). Le karst est donc également un aquifère puisque l'eau souterraine est totalement impliquée dans sa formation et dans son fonctionnement. Ainsi, le karst est constitué par un ensemble de formes souterraines et de surface et de conditions d'écoulements souterrains , qui interagissent les unes sur les autres.

La formation des sources

Dans ces roches, la dissolution et l'écoulement souterrain créent des conduits parfois pénétrables par l'homme (Fig. 3) ; ces conduits sont organisés en réseau hiérarchisé de l'amont (les points d'infiltration d'eau dans la roche) vers l'aval (la source).

The Hertebron spring
Hérou Karst Spring

A spring is a natural resurgence of groundwater, usually along a hillside or from a valley floor.

Springs in karst areas differ from normal springs: they normally have a much higher production, as they are just the end of a waterfilled cave system. Also they are highly dependent on the weather. Every rain and, of course, the snow melting leads to increased production.

Karst springs regularly fall dry in dry periods in the summer, such springs are called Seasonal Spring. On the other hand, the water quality is often poor! Both effects have the same reason: the water flows rather fast through cave systems, there is not enough time for micro organisms to clean the water. So karst springs are not a good source for water supply.

The Hertebron is with the Minnebron in Oud-Heverlee the springs that provides here drinking water.


Task: To claim the cache as a find you must visit this location. Make a photograph and add this photograph to your log is optional and appreciated.
