Miami Beach Park is in the Bowley's Quarters section of eastern Baltimore County and is “nestled on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Miami Beach Park features a 300' sandy beach, swimming, a pavilion, playground and nature trail.” This is a beautiful place to have lunch on a nice day and enjoy the view of the Bay and the serenity. The cache is named for the longtime caretaker of Miami Beach, my friend Mr. Joseph Orzolek.

Miami Beach Park features a 300' sandy beach, swimming, a pavilion, playground and nature trail.” This is a beautiful place to have lunch on a nice day and enjoy the view of the Bay and the serenity. It was once a private “shore” with dance hall, live music, slot machines, pool tables and many weekend visitors eager for dip in the Bay. There was also a semi-permanent campground here at one time, the remnants of which can be found in the woods behind the shore. Baltimore County Dept. of Parks and Rec took over in 1977 and by that time the beach maintenance man had already become a fixture, Mr. Joe Orzolek. Joe originally worked for Haas Tailoring and moved into his current home adjacent to Miami Beach in 1960. He began working in maintenance at Miami Beach in 1956, and only recently retired. I have spent many trips here hunting for reptiles and amphibians, and especially turtles in the woods and pond. I met Joe in the late 1980’s, when I first established my medical practice and had the time to visit more frequently. I have many fond memories of chewing the fat with Joe while enjoying the view of the Bay. Our love for the Beach here made us fast friends, and I held many annual crab feasts and family gatherings in Joe’s nearby backyard. I have many fond memories of chewing the fat with Joe while enjoying the view of the Bay. Joe would open the Beach every am, care for the grounds and buildings, clean and groom the Beach, keep a watchful eye over comings and goings, and close the Beach at night. He will be forever remembered as the unofficial “Mayor of Miami Beach”. He is a kind, selfless, wonderful individual and though his body is in its 90’s and breaking down, he will always be remembered by all who love Miami Beach. Joe and his wife Julie were married in 1939, and Julie passed away 12/4/2010. They were like Grand Parents to myself and my family. This cache is established in Joe and the Beach’s honor.
I believe the official hours of the Beach are 10am- dusk. There is an admission fee on weekends during the Summer, and plenty of parking.
