Geocache Description:

“Cultivating Community”

The Farmer’s Ditch was built to aid cultivation. Our beautiful city wouldn’t be the verdant place that it is today if it weren’t for people taking water from one place and moving it to another. Boulder in the 1880’s had far fewer trees than it does today, and those trees wouldn’t be where they are if someone hadn’t made the effort to move water from the creek to some place out of the creek bed.

This cache recognizes the role that the ditch has played in cultivation over the years. From its location, you can see the Community Gardens, Long’s Iris Gardens and residential neighborhoods with tree-lined streets. None of these would be possible without the relocation of water, the west’s most precious resource.

We had some trouble with the cach disapearing from its spot, so we recently changed it to a smaller size with a more secure attachment. To prove (only to ourselves) how hardcore we are, we placed this cache on the “coldest night of the decade”.

If you seek it between May and September, use great caution, consider bringing a towel, and add a star for difficulty. Please be sure to place it SECURELY back in its location.
