EC - Terah's Vision Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

jayjaybee8: It's had a good 2 year run, but the ground cover has got less and less as the council pruning gets more severe; we're going to let this one go, and hope it leaves some scope for a new cache from someone else.

Thanks for all the finds and great comments - it did what we wanted, brought people here to look up at the amazing building and chimney

Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed near Springfield Mill, as part of a short series following the Erewash Canal passing through Long Eaton and Sandiacre.
There is no need to access the Mill property to reach this cache, as the cache is just off the towpath.

This cache is a small clip-lock box, with a log book, pencil and a number of small swaps

Springfield Mill was built on the banks of the Erewash Canal in 1888 by lace manufacturer Terah Hooley, an entrepreneur and former owner of nearby Risley Hall. It was built as a sister building to the larger Victoria Mills in Draycott. But when lace manufacturing ceased at Springfield Mill, it fell into a state of disrepair.

The building was bought and converted to apartments. The project, which was completed in early 2006, saw the development retain many of the building's original exterior features, including its red brick facade, cast iron window frames, clock and its tall octagonal brick chimney, which dominates this cache.

There is pedestrian access from a number of pedestrian access points on the nearby streets, or further along the canal if this cache is being done as part of the series. There is parking in nearby side streets, or at the nearby retail park

The towpath has recently been resurfaced, giving good access for pushchairs, wheelchairs etc.

Keep an eye on small children due to the cache being situated near water.
