Geocache Description:

I planted this cache as a memorial to the victims of the enourmous oil explosions that leveled this area in 1926. They were A.H. Seeber, age 70, and his son W.F. Seeber, age 50. This is a small camoed plastic container with just the log sheet and a special cash prize for the FTF. Be careful to replace the cache just the way you found it. BYOP Good Luck

It was in the morning of April 7, 1926 when lightning from a powerful thunderstorm struck at least one of the 3 massive underground oil reservoirs here. It caused, at that time, the worst oil disaster in the nation's history. The enourmous explosion and fire killed 2 people, and blew out windows as far away as downtown SLO. Over 3.5 million gallons of oil were burned or spilled, and as a rusult, the land is still environmentally unusable, almost a hundred years later. Where the cache is hidden, is not only ground zero for the goeocache, but very close to ground zero for the expolsions. The 3 huge undergound oil reservoirs were very close to this location.
