The Old Coastgaurd Cottages are a row of two hundred year old terraced cottages, on the S W Coast Path overlooking Cawsand and Plymouth Sound. They were built to house the 'Revenue' men who kept watch over Plymouth Sound for smuggler boats. Cawsand was a notorious smuggling haven and the Revenue men and their families were ostracised by the 'locals' as they resented their interference in what was a 'way of life'.
Cache is situated on the Coastal Path to Penlee Point. It is accessed either by walking up the path from Cawsand village centre or along the road to Penlee Point. (Only part access to gate as the rest of the road continues on through Mount Edgecumbe land and is restricted to motor vehicles)
The cache is along the side of the path past the residents car park. DO NOT PARK IN THE RESIDENTS CAR PARK use the spare ground on either side of the hill approach down towards the cottages themselves or park in the village itself and walk up. Some of the residents are Geocachers themselves but this area is very busy with Muggles especially in the Summer.. The path is suitable for pushchairs when not muddy, children and great for dog walkers. Small lid-lock box.
