Like the other areas of Walk on the Wild Side #1-#6 , this is also near a remnant of the Southern Spur and a wooden trestle was across this street and at one time had two lanes of access to the agricultural lands that lay west of this defunct rail corridor that used to serve the agricultural interest to the South and particulaly the once thriving asparagus and fruit crops of the Delta.This Southern Spur was an off shoot of the Southern Pacific Rail Road and ran North along the River and across the often flooded areas of the Riverside District outside of the city proper to the depot in downtown Sacramento.
The areas along the southern route of this Defunct Rail Road spur have become a recreational setting for the residents of the areas along its path. Check out the huge Oaks that are everywhere and don’t be surprised if you are challenged by a local flock of wild turkeys that use this natural area as their private highway and reserve, or you might flush wild dove or even a pheasant.
