How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Simple off set cache placed with kind permission of The Forestry Commission Wales at Craig y Llan Woods near Rudry

The initial stage of this cache is a chirp, our first attempt at this type of caching method.

The beacon will give you the final destination co-ordinates and a clue. GPS was +/- 5 m at placing

The cache container you will be looking for is a camouflaged ammo can which contains logbook, pencil and sharpener, along with the usual small swaps, and one TB.

We hope you enjoy the area and our first attempt at this type of off-set cache.

The following Garmin GPS units are compatible with chirp
Dakota 20
Oregon 300, 400t, 400i, 400c
Oregon 450, 450t, 550, 550t
GPSMAP 62s, 62st
GPSMAP 78s, 78sc

For more information about chirping and compatible devises

Please note there is a steep section of path to follow, which can get slippery in wet weather, and we advise suitable footwear be worn; and may not be suitable for very young geocahers.

Chirp devise is placed on the left hand side of the path ~ please give your devise sufficient time to pick up the signal ~ if you stand near the start of the handrails you are almost on top of the devise ~ we picked up the signal 5 metres away in either direction.
