Geocache Description:

This is a 35mm film cache and is placed close to the site of The Tees Cottage Pumping Station located on Conscliffe Road (A67) on the outskirts Darlington.

From 1849 Tees Cottage Pumping Station revolutionised water supply in Darlington and Teesside by offering cleaner piped water to the inhabitants who had previously relied on wells and rainwater tubs. The steam engines at Tees Cottage pumped water from the River Tees, this water was then filtered and supplied to customers.

On Open Days at Tees Cottage you can still see the 1902 Lancashire Boilers, the 1904 steam powered Beam Engine and 1914 Gas powered engine, all in operation and still pumping water from the River Tees (although no longer supplying the town's water!) There is also a Blacksmith's Shop, where demonstrations are usually given and a Miniature Railway.

Tees Cottage Pumping Station is maintained and opened entirely by volunteers.

Open days at the museum can be found at this link: (visit link)

This cache is wheelchair accessible but help would be needed to retrive the final cache.

If you have children or animals please supervised them closely at all times as the main road can be busy.
