Once upon a time there was a grand plan to build a dam just downstream from this cache site. Howard, Knierem and Pounder Canyons would have been flooded. The proposed project would have made a lakefront community much like Lake Oswego in the portland area, right here in east Multnomah county. It never happened and the creeks continue to flow unimpeded. Littlepage Road now winds through this 'gorge' where the dam would have been.
This bridge has been 'the bridge' to generations of moms and dads and kids for many years. Small fish used to swim in the waters of this creek. Toy boats have floated under the bridge, rocks have been thrown by all ages of boys and girls, into the water on thousands of occasions. Sticks have been fetched by pets and baths have been taken in swimsuits and probably by kids in 'Sunday Best' as well. Memories of a simpler life, a time with few complexities, floods the mind of those who take the time to sit here, and remember. While the water continues to rush to wherever it chooses, our heart never loses sight of 'the bridge'.
