The Maury River is a pleasant neighbor to have on most days, but Buena Vista has suffered from the river's mean side as well. The City is ready for the Maury these days thanks to a massive project which took many years to complete although few people pay much attention to it today. It remains on guard 24/7 and is an impressive piece of engineering and construction, not to mention a provider of a scenic recreational trail for residents, vistors and their canine companions alike.
The cache container is NOT at the posted coordinates. There you will find an interesting marker and will need to use your noggin to obtain the missing numbers in the final coordinates:

Proceed to (or back to) the posted parking area and follow your nose and/or GPS to the final location. The cache is not in a fenced off area, but footing will be a bit rocky on the final approach.
The gravel trail is continuous on the east side of the river and marked better in some places than others. In the area around the wastewater treatment plant follow the double track gravel road ON FOOT just outside of the security fence on the RR tracks side of the wastewater treatment plant. DO NOT drive down the double track trail! See Trailhead waypoint for the way to go!
Obey all signs when seeking the cache!
It is not recommended or intended to follow the gravel path that is closest to the river. This route turns into a rough approach! Please follow the designated trail described above and with the trailhead waypoint
Original cache contents include 5 plastic glo-in-dark stars, christmas button, Land of Little Horses magnet, 1996 olympic cycling commemorative coin, Buena Vista magnet, Travel Bug and $15 gift certificate to BV's own Original Italian Restaurant on Magnolia Ave. between 20th and 21st Streets.
At Original Italian Restaurant check out the marker on the wall near the front door which shows the past level of the flood waters.
