Geocache Description:

TIBAR HEIGHTS GEOCACHE

Taking the road, west along the coast, out of Dili, after 7 kilometers or so you come to the next bay at a place called Tibar.

In Tibar follow the coast road for another 4Km’s or so until you see, high on the hill above the road, the CPA retreat centre.

Walk up the ridge from the CPA, past a new electricity pylon and on up to the top of the ridge to find Tibar Heights!!

TIBAR HEIGHTS GEOCACHE

Taking the road, west along the coast, out of Dili, after 7 kilometers or so you come to the next bay at a place called Tibar. Straight on here and you start the grueling ascent up into the middle of the island, where if you persist, you can arrive at a little place called Ermera, high up in Timor’s ‘coffee country’……but not today.

Instead, turn right in Tibar and follow the coast road (which is in awful condition – mind the holes, no chasms, on the way!!!) for another 4Km’s or so, around a couple of headlands and past a couple of small boatyards clustered around the little wooden jetty until you see, high on the hill above the road, the CPA retreat centre.

Park at the bottom of the steep road upto the CPA :

8º 34’ 09.3” South
125º 28’ 05.5” East

and walk up from here to find our cache.

Walk up past the CPA buildings and follow the ragged, bulldozed path which runs diagonally up across the shoulder of the hill….once on the flat of the ridge top you’ll see ahead of you one of the new electricity pylons which show that progress and infrastructure is slowly, very slowly, coming to this impoverished place.

The Pylon on the hill is 436 feet above sea level, so take a break here to enjoy the splendid views along the coast and across the Wetar Straits to the islands of Alor, Atauro, Wetar and beyond. The pylon is at:

8º 34’ 40.3” South
125º 28’ 08.4” East

To find our cache follow the wood cutter’s path which runs on up the spine of the ridge you are on in a general south easterly direction. It is a steady uphill climb but worth it for the glimpsed views of this rugged area as you walk up through the trees. After about 20 minutes you’ll reach the top of this ridge where you’ll see where an old Indonesian Trig Point used to be. The local people have smashed it down leaving just a hole where it used to be!
Well done, you are over 800 feet up right beside our cache!
