East Bergholt is located in the Stour Valley, in the county of Suffolk. Ten miles North of Colchester and 8 miles South of Ipswich. Known as the birthplace of the famous painter John Constable, the village makes up part of Constable Country alongside many local settlements.
The church of St Mary the Virgin is the main church of the village; built in the 15/16th Centuries. Known for the absence of a bell tower, a bell cage has been erected in the church yard and that still exists today, although it has been moved from it's original location following a complaint from the resident of Old Hall in the 17th Centure due to the noise caused by the bells!
Nearby is Flatford Mill which used to be owned by John Constable's father. The mill buildings feature in many of Constable's art works
