Welcome to the Gulf State Park Nature Center. This facility was opened in October 15, 2010 and was built in the same location as the original one that was built in 1981 and destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Inside you will find a wide range of wildlife that is indigenous to the Alabama Gulf Coast. These include a variety of non-venomous snakes, alligators, turtles, a screech owl, and lizards. There is also a variety of taxidermied animals including deer, an assortment of waterfowl, fox, coyote, beaver, and a Black Bear that was struck by a vehicle in the State Park in the mid 1980’s.
Visitors can also learn a great deal of information from the Park’s Naturalists
The Nature Center staff organizes a variety of activities including beach, trail, and pier walks, programs featuring live educational ambassador animals, videos, and other events. They also work with area schools and scouting groups and organize volunteer work days for projects such as dune restoration, trail work, and carpentry projects.
Be sure to say hello to Calvin while you are there.
You are looking for a camouflaged medicine bottle which is inside the nature center. Please do not touch or move any of the mounted animals in your search. There is a $2 fee per vehicle to enter campground as a non-camping guest. The posted coordinates will get you to the middle of the Nature Center, but you will have to explore the whole main room to get credit for this one. Enjoy!
I hope you have enjoyed all the geocaches we have placed in Gulf State Park, along with the rest of your experience here Please consider giving us some feedback here. We would appreciate it if you would include something about your geocaching experience. We hope to show the bosses in Montgomery how many people geocache, in hopes that they will encourage other Parks to invest in it like we have, here at Gulf State Park. Thanks, Dothenumbers.
P.S. Don't forget a Favorite's Point Please
