Geocache Description:

This spring is along Ooka River between Hinodecho Station and Koganecho Station of Keihin Electric Express.

This spring(sump water) is along Ooka River between Hinodecho Station and Koganecho Station of Keihin Electric Express.
It has been used as local life water for a long time.
It was difficult to secure high quality water in Kannai that was reclaimed land.
This neighborhood outskirts located in the foot of the Mt. Noge were areas blessed with springs.
As for this spring, Mt. Noge is thought about with the source of a river. Through a cast iron pipe buried in the underground, it springs out here.
A private water supply supplier using this spring played an active part from the beginning of the Meiji era. It seemed to supply water to drink on the ship which called at a port of Yokohama Port.
It is not suitable for drinking now because it can not keep the clean quality of the water under the influence of urbanization.
However, at the time of disasters can use it as life water except drinking.
Attention: We cannot drink this water!

京浜急行の日ノ出町駅と黄金町駅の間の大岡川沿いの護岸上から流出している湧水です。

この湧水は歴史的に由緒あるもので、古くから地域の生活用水として広く利用されてきました。
埋立地である関内･関外などでは良質な水を確保するのは困難でしたが、野毛山の裾野に位置する日ノ出町周辺は湧水に恵まれた地域でした。
この湧水も野毛山が水源と考えられ、地中に埋設された鋳鉄管を通じてここに湧き出ています。
明治の始めごろから湧水を利用した民間の給水業者が活躍し、横浜港に寄港する船舶に飲用水を供給していたそうです。

近年では、周辺環境の都市化が進んだ影響もあり、清浄な水質が保てないため、飲用には適しません。
しかし、災害時等には飲用以外の生活用水として利用することが出来ます。
関東大震災（大正１２年）の時は非常用水として活用され多くの命を救ったといわれています。
水温は夏は冷たく、冬は暖かく、一年を通じて１５℃前後と安定してします。
