Geocache Description:

A small plastic baking powder jar. Winter friendly. Could use XC skiis as Vasa did.

I have thought for a long time that this location needed a cache, and today as I was doing cache maintenance I had a container on the seat beside me, and so did a spur of the moment hide. A very winter appropriate bit of history.

Gustav Vasa is considered to be the first king, and the father of, a united Sweden. The Danes controlled Sweden until 1523, when in a dramatic sweep Vasa lead his men on cross country skiis into a surprise battle against the Danes and drove them out of Sweden. For the next two centuries his family held the Swedish throne.

Each winter the vasaloppet ski race in central Sweden commemorates this event. The race is 90 km. No battle is required at the end.

Don't the Swedish and Canadian flags look great together in front of the nearby building?
