Whirlpool
You are standing at an intersection on the track next to a whirlpool*. A river runs passed to the east. Far off in the distance you can see dark hills of the Mt Lofty Ranges and on a clear day you can see a landslide.
There is a cache here.
*Because of the erosion of the levee, the cache has been temporarily relocated 160m west of the whirlpool - just a short walk away. The whirlpool can still be seen just beyond the fence near the river.
Mutton Cove is supplied with water every day through pipes that allow water to flow in at high tide. When the tide drops, the water then flows back out into the Port River, creating this interesting whirlpool. From here you can view the river, the quarantine station and the occasional tourist craft which passes around lunchtime. And you can follow the path north to the wreck for a few more caches and a bit of Adelaide history.
The cache contains just a logbook so bring your own pencil.
