The jumbo covered hopper grain car, built at Pullman-Standard in
Butler in 1974, is now displayed at the Butler Transit Authority's
new transit center off Hansen Avenue in Butler. The center is
constructed on property that was part of the Pullman-Standard rail
car factory.
The car as a tribute to the 30,000 men and woman who worked
at the Pullman-Standard plant over an eighty year period.
GATX, a rail car leasing company, donated the car which comes
from Saskatchewan, Canada. The refurbished covered hopper has been
restored at shops in New Castle and is now painted as it was when
it left the Butler plant in the summer of 1974.
Butler Transit Authority is planning a grand opening in the
spring to celebrate completion of the new Transit Center and to
dedicate the rail car. A historical marker will be in place as
well.
The cache is a lock & lock type container and there is a FTF
prize inside.
