Geocache Description:

This cache is located just off the Beach Trail near the observation deck. Trail is paved up to the observation deck and then becomes gravel. Cache is placed inside the hollow base of a tree 40 feet off the right side of the trail near the end of the trail.

The location of this cache will take you to an area of the park where evidence of an Indian tribe known as the Doques and other prehistoric inhabitants has been discovered. Such evidence that has been found along the shoreline in that area is quarts arrowheads and pottery shards.

The cache container is a clear lock-n-lock box with a log book and collector’s card.

This cache is part of the Virginia State Parks 75th Anniversary Geocaching Adventure. Each state park has a cache for this series, each with a unique collector’s card. There are small prizes for finding 5, 10, 20, and ALL of the caches. Most parks require a small parking fee while geocaching. For more information go to: www.virginiaoutdoors.com.
