The cache is located on the slopes of Slieve Corragh, Mournes, Co.Down.
The Pot of Legawherry dominates the northern slopes of Slieve Commedagh and Slieve Corragh. It is a striking reminder of the erosive power of the glacier that once filled its bowl. Stand in its entrance, look northwards and to your left there is a rocky/heathery rib that leads all the way up to the summit of Slieve Corragh. This rib provides a delightful airy scramble (if you stick to its rocky crest) but you can walk up the steep heathery / screey slopes that fringe the side of the rib. The cache is located on a small level step that provides a fantastic view of the Pot ..... and much more ...... it is a beautiful spot to sit down with a cuppa and a chocolate biscuit and catch your breath. Please return the cache container (a smallish orange box) very carefully in an upright position – it can be very wet up here.
Take great care when ascending the rib as there are steep drops in places. Wear full mountain kit, have a rucksack with food, drink etc and bring a map and compass (which, of course, you know how to use). This one is for experienced hill walkers only – best not attempted in very windy or wintry conditions.
After finding the cache it is probably best to continue on up to the summit of Slieve Corragh ..... then you have many options ..... there are several other caches relatively close.
