I am afraid Oxidation's days might be numbered. I received word yesterday that the Gas Company plans on putting a fence around the area. I am going to try and keep it up until after the Eat & Greet event on February 11. Hopefully they won't enclose it before then. I know this has been a popular cache and will look for a place for it to be reborn later with the same d/t rating.
This cache is located along Rosemary Dunes Trail, which is part of the Hugh S. Branyon Back Country Trail. This wonderful network of trails is a collaborative effort between the Gulf State Park and the City of Orange Beach. The trails consist of approximately 9.5 miles of paved trails, which run through the Wildlife Reserve in Gulf State Park. The trails are great for hiking, all types of bicycles, and even roller skates. You can find a trail map here. Android phone users can also find an App for the Back Country Trail here. iPhone users can find an app here.
This particular cache was designed to cause a little bit of stress to the hunter. It located on or around a rusty piece of natural gas pipeline which is a short distance from the paved trail.
In my geocaching kit I always keep a “write on anything” NASA space pen, pair of tweezers, extra batteries, a good flashlight, and tradable items. You will likely need one or more of these items at the cache site.
Please wipe the cache down and return it back to the same exact location that you found it. Have fun with this one. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of feedback I get on it.
You do not need to turn any valves, disassemble any plumbing, or use any explosive devices to locate this cache.
I hope you have enjoyed all the geocaches we have placed in Gulf State Park, along with the rest of your experience here Please consider giving us some feedback here. We would appreciate it if you would include something about your geocaching experience. We hope to show the bosses in Montgomery how many people geocache, in hopes that they will encourage other Parks to invest in it like we have, here at Gulf State Park. Thanks, Dothenumbers.
