Geocache Description:

Get together to meet fellow cachers and get some tips on solving puzzle caches.

Puzzles 101 Meet and Greet
Date: Saturday, March 26, 2011
Time: 10:30 am to 1:00 pm
Location: Tualatin Public Library, Community Room

- Do you see a "?" in front of a cache name and automatically ignore it?

- Do you wish you had a fun caching activity for cold, rainy winter days (or nights)?

- Are you mystified that some cachers are able to pull coordinates out of cache-page gibberish?

- In short, do you wish you were better able to solve puzzle caches?

If so, please come to this class.

Puzzles are the one cache category that seems to be avoided by a great many geocachers. In fact, many cachers routinely ignore any and all caches that appear with a "question mark" in front of a cache title. This is really too bad since many "puzzles caches" are quite clever, some are easy, and many require simple internet searches to answer a few questions.

In this class we hope to chase away some of the mystery surrounding "mystery" caches. We'll provide some tips and tools and hands-on practice to help. This is a beginning class aimed to help people get started on 2.5-star-difficulty and lower puzzles. We'll include some examples of existing puzzles - local ones used with permission, and some that are not-so local.

We will be in the Tualatin Public Library, Community Room. Socializing will start at 10:30 am, and the class will start at 11:00. Bring paper and something to write with. If you have a laptop, bring that too (as well as an extension cord, if you can).

Please be sure to post a "Will Attend" log if you plan to attend so I know how many handouts to prepare and how many chairs to set up.

A note to puzzle owners:

- Please come to the event so we may meet you and share in your knowledge.

- I won’t talk about specific local puzzles unless I have explicit permission from the owner. So, if you have a 2.5-star-or-less difficulty puzzle you would like to be used as an example, please let me know.
