Geocache Description:

Durham's first Wherigo!

Come visit downtown Durham and learn about our historic architecture. See the first building in North Carolina with an elevator, and the last one with an elevator operator. See the first building in Durham to have air conditioning. Find out how much it cost to build the downtown Post Office. Find out which building in Durham was designed by the same architects as the Empire State Building.

Depending on where you park, you'll walk 1 mile to 1-1/2 miles. It's all paved, with good sidewalks, so it's fine for strollers or wheelchairs. (The only reason I didn't rate it 1 for Terrain is the distance.)

The posted coordinates are for a suitable parking area, but you'll have to pay to park there.

To complete a Wherigo Cache, you need one of the following:

1) An Android phone with the free WhereYouGo app;

2) A Pocket PC with a GPS and the Wherigo Player installed;

3) A Garmin Oregon or Colorado;

or a friend who has one of the above.

Download the cartridge from the Wherigo website: Tour of Durham.

NOTE: When replacing the container, make sure the keyring is pointing DOWN, and don't push the container up past the screw that holds the sign in place. This will make it easier for subsequent finders to retrieve the container and sign the log. Thank you!
