A cache on the fife coastal path at Kincraig WW2 Anti-tank and
coastal defences. Cache can be reached either from the Shell Bay
Holiday Park end or from Earlsferry, Also including the chain walk.
Please see related web page for information on Kincraig Battery.
This cache can be accessed by one of three ways:
1. If you are just grabbing the cache and don't intend on doing the chain walk, you can take the turning from the main road to Elie Holiday Park and park in the gravel car park on the right before the gates, then take the track opposite and head up the hill towards to aerials. If you follow the track past the little cabin and along the avenue of trees you can take a left at the end and it brings you out right on the main coastal path between the two transmitters. (This way you can also get my Elie Holiday Park cache at the car park!)
If you are planning on doing the chain walk there are two options:
1. Park in Earlsferry and follow the coastal path to the eastern starting point of the chain walk and the grab the cache on your way back.
2. Park at Elie Holiday Park and follow the coastal path from the western end of the chain walk, and then grab the cache on your way back.
Both are about the same distance and GZ makes for a nice picnic spot :)
Very interesting to see what is left of the WWII pillboxes and gun placements (they have mostly been demolished but it is still very much apparent as to what they are).
If you follow the coastal path west towards to large pill box building for about 150yds you might notice a small track going off to your left, seemingly towards the cliff edge. If you're careful you will find a set of concrete stairs that lead down to another small 'shelter' and it gives you a lovely view of the wavecut platform down below (for all you Geography geeks!)
Caution advised.
You get beautiful views over the forth and earlsferry!
PLEASE TAKE EXTREME CARE AROUND CLIFF EDGES! ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN AND PETS!
Vegetation grows up quite high here in the summer months and there are a few jaggies!
Cache is a small lock n lock container.
